The phrase “Travelling widens our horizons” is in my opinion true and I agree with it.
As we travel we meet new people, we see what they think about certain things. We can also notice what their style of living is and we can compare it to ours, for example you can find some things that are completely normal and right to them, but in your country it is considered unacceptable. You can also meet many people who have different believes and you accept that if it is explained and argumented to you. You would not accept them if you stayed in your country and always look at that only from your own point of view.
On the other side, nevertheless, I could also disagree with the statement, for if you only travel to countries and places with the same culture and believes, you could wrongly think that all the world has the same believes.
So at the end I think travelling has many more positive effects than negative and really widens our knowledge and makes us more tolerant to new and unknown things.

For me the belief that travelling widens horizons is quite correct, because if you travel a lot, you see many new places, people. You learn a lot about different cultures, gain historical information about countries, cities, places.
But as much as people like travelling, not everybody can afford it. This is why they use different ways of exploring places. Some of them are the internet and television. You can find a lot of information watching the news on television. That also counts in widening our horizons.
This phrase can also be found in everyday life. Like in the kitchen, for instance. You watch your mother cook and you learn how to prepare a good meal, you learn something new. You also widen horizons at school. At school you learn new things every day at mathematics, geography, science. You gain little bits of knowledge and you get wiser.
My opinion is that as much as you can learn from travelling you can also learn from sitting in front of your computer. It may not be your personal experience, but it is much cheaper.

Some people think travelling can be relaxing if you go on holiday. Some people travel to meet new cultures and learn things that are new to them. Some people just travel because they have to, because it maybe is part of their job, while some cannot afford travelling. It all comes down to where we are going to travel and with what reason.
Travelling can be fun if you go to another continent for a few months or if you just visit your distant friend who lives in another country. You can always have fun with your friend or explore new things or it can be a total bummer.
I myself have never travelled very far; northern Germany was as far as I have got for now. I have seen some new things there, but there is no big change in culture and lifestyle. I can imagine, though, how different it can be in Asia where there is a totally different culture and they have other values to appreciate. Learning new things and getting fascinated by them really opens your mind and you welcome new values, other ways of living or perhaps another lifestyle. But can that always be fun and interesting? Even if it is part of your job, it can get pretty annoying always travelling and never be with your loved ones. I would refuse that kind of job.
I think travelling does widen your horizons. You learn the best things from each culture, absorb their values and you respect others and the different just like you would expect others to do. Every religion, every culture teaches at least one good thing. If you took one from each and start living by it and other people in this world did the same, we would have a better world.
